getting ur 4 string down to A | ||
|
It's a bit ghetto but i had an old 4 string i wanted to use with a band plaing in Drop A, so I took it to the guitar shop and had the guy file out the nut
slots to accommodate the lowest 4 strings from a 5 string bass (B, E, A, D). I then tuned the bottom B string down to A and away we go. i think thats about the
only way u can get round it without flappy strings. Only thing is u do sacrifice the G string, but who uses that in heavy music anyway? it's all about the
bottom string

Widows, thanks. I've since came to the conclusion that tuning a bass down to A is not worth it. The trade-offs are too costly. Even a guitar tuned down to
A will not sound its best. It'll be heavy, for sure, but it'll be too low to handle palm mutes and all those things we love about guitars. So currently
I detune my guitars to C sharp and keep the bass in E. It makes for some great "counter-movement", if you could call it that. Whenever the guitars go
up, the bass goes down and vice versa. I feel it's a great balance between a barky bass and detuned guitars.

http://www.zshare.net/audio/581594810a1730d2/ jam with a GT1
i know this is not the best jam, it was with a jazz drummer that never played rock before and the bass player was sooo #$!$@!# drunk....hell. theres is no real height in the jam where you say oh yeah, but the matamp GT1 tone is quite distinct, and the jam "chills" in some way was recorded with a ZOOM H2 handyrecorder that was placed in the middle of the room, by the way!

Wow, JSB! Great tone on those clips! That is THE TONE I'm looking for. I did not listen to the previous clip you posted on the 4th of April until now,
either (referring to the GT1 stoner-thread I started). I would definitely get through in my band with a sound like that. No, wait...... not only get through,
our other guitarist would probably turn green with envy.
Thanks a lot to all contributors on this thread, by the way. |

Thats the cool thing about those amps, they change their character and response from time to time

Not fully turned up... its about half way up. I think more distortion is no problem, but i would get a 4x12 for that
You can change the pre amp valves for more distortion! |

Natron wrote:Thanks, but I put that project to rest. Too many problems sucking the life out of me. If I remember correctly, it's a Jaguar Baritone detuned to A. Brittle Dragster humbuckers. 072's, baby! As for the amp, it's probably max voice (all left), max gain and then kept down on the Master, perhaps 11 o'clock which is my favourite spot (raw, dynamic yet warm). I think I used a single Shure Beta 52 "near the corner of the baffle board". Perhaps not the best mic to capture the guitar range, but it does indeed have a natural kinda scoop going on. :P As for post effects, I doubled the guitar and added MasterQ and VintageWarmer plugins. Don't remember the settings, but I usually just use some guitar preset and then set it to 60% to make it less sharp. The bass is just a lined, sloppy and wobbly Samick with extra fret noise. The oot.mp3 is much more representative of how a GT1 sounds, imo. In that clip, I crank an SG with Iommi PAFs. |

that "oot" clip sounds pretty darn good too......
I've been tossing the idea of a new GT1 around for the last week........but haven't taken the plunge...... (trying to decide between the GT1 and an Electric MV Unit) |

^ Either of those amps would be amazing, and they'll probably sound pretty similar. However, if you want to wait a year to get you amp whilst receiving sub
par customer service, then order the Electric, otherwise, just get yourself a GT1 and rain some freaking fire.

Marcus wrote: Hm. I played this amp also very clean. Its not the same Fender style clean sound, but its still very nice. I linke it better with a telecaster clean, as with a les paul. Humbuckers can tend to sound too muddy with JJ's The Clean sound is a bit muffeld, but still nice, depends also on the speakers. Because the amp is very dark an sounding a bit muffled, a guitar like a tele is a better match for clean sounds. With a tele it sounds like some fender with minimum overdrive. Also i have to say, the JJ preamp tubes muffle most of the sound. Switch the tubes for
cleaner sounds.
Its simple, with other tubes, highs and more presence jump in your face. I have tune where i play my matamp almost clean! I prefer the sound over the fender clean, because it sounds so special. I cant really describe it, but this clean tone is so uncommon and totally underrated!!! Here is a short demo with my band Matamp almost clean
