Whats your pedal set up? |
Lead | |
|
Anyone found any nice pedals that sound good with your Matamps? I've used some gear that sounds pretty good on say a Marshall JCM800 but sounds like crap
with my Mat and Orange heads. Also, as i've got a soft spot for nice boutique pedals, i'm interested what your floor set up is like. Cheers!

Currently:
Korg DT-10 Tuner > D*A*M Red Rooster > D*A*M Sonic Titan > EHX Small Stone > Colorsound Wah Past: Korg DT-10 Tuner > D*A*M Red Rooster > D*A*M Sonic Titan > EHX Small Stone > EHX Small Clone > Colorsound Wah Only ever used the Small Clone on 1 song, it never really fitted in anywhere else (and it's not the 80's!), so it was replaced with a Colorsound Wah (black enclosure), modded for a 9v power supply. The D*A*M pedals sounded good with my old JCM800 4104 combo, but sound awesome with my Matamp.

Hahahaha.... i thought i recognised your band name. Dave drums for you doesn't he!
He's a good friend of mine. His old band Wheels used to play with my old band a lot in London. Small world. |

Small world indeed!
Ask him about the Sonic Titan, I managed to get him one after he tried mine out a few times...

I'm running two amps at the same time so:
Lehle Dual (a channel into Orange AD30 with no effects) b channel goes to: Analogman DOD250>ZVEX Box of Rock>Keeley ProCo Rat>EH Little Big Muff>Boss GE7 Equalizer Off of a Big Shot Mix i have: Dr Scientist Reverberator>Aria Chorus>Boss RV3 Reverb/Delay Off out into a Matamp GT2 Twin Channel Head. I've just picked up a Foxx Tone Machine Fuzz pedal this week though so i think it could be time to strip the pedal train down and give it a rebuild I'm a bit of a pedal hoarder though and have other stuff just kicking around: Harmonic Percolator Clone, ZVEX Fuzz Factory, modded MXR Blue Box, Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde, TS10 Tubescreamer, JDF2 Fuzz Face... I should have a clear out i suppose but i'm one of these people who always thinks in the back of my head it might come in useful one day. |

What mod do you have for the Blue Box? I love the pedal, just could never use it effectively unless I was just screwing around at the end of set.

The mod is dead easy. It's to do with the volume drop you get when you turn it on.
Just take a pair of fine clippers and cut off the transistor on C11. It's a little horse shoe shaped doohickey. Simple as that. Did the job for mine! |

And i agree with it being awkward to use... i find it works great when mixed together with a nice transparent OD. Gives a nice little push over the edge if you
want a 'just on the edge of breaking up' distortion sound.
Just doesn't have very much sustain and carry on it's own. |

Going to give the mod a go tomorrow, always noticed that problem, but never thought to get it corrected by the pedal, I used an ABY to created a loop with that
and this old flanger I had that had a volume booster before it.

W00DSY! I think that pedal board is worth more than my Med School fees!
Do you have any clips anywhere of your music? Would love to hear it. |

I had written a load of blurb telling how my pathetic cheap pedals had been shamed by Woodsy's mega expensive Cornish set up up at the factory recently but
as the computer has just lost it lets just leave it as .... boo hoo! inferiority complex! taking my bat and ball home etc.!

Might not be of much interest to people who stick with analogue effects, but here is what I use: keeley true-bypass looper > (loop send > radial JDI >
max/msp > loop return) > fulltone OCD > line 6 DL4 > minimat 1 and king street combo I run max/msp on a laptop and build my own custom programs to
do things like complex phrase sampling (inspired by the oberheim echoplex), granulation/synthesis and crazy lfo panning between the two amps. Things get pretty
mental! And I do highly recommend the OCD, especially with the minimat 1, it sounds amazing when the amp is about half-cranked, using the pedal to tip it over
the edge.

current set up | ||

Here is my current set up, I have two loops going using the tonebone loop pedal. One is for the guitar set up, and the other is for the bass tones since
we're a two piece band and I play guitar and bass parts with my guitar... Also you'll notice on the upper left my vocal effects processor. I use that
for practice and for venues that don't have a good sound system I'll run my own vocal effects. The bass loop is an EQ pedal, POG and tuner, the guitar
loop is the RMC III wah, new swollen pickle, and catalinbread boost. Noise suppressor on the out to guitar, and small stone nano on the in from amp before the
loop. I'll soon be adding an ernie ball jr volume pedal and possibly the tone bone switchbone to A/B/Y my marshall superlead and the matamp GTL to get the
tones I used on the new EP. Haven't decided on that one though I might just stick with the GTL only, or I may just have the A/B/Y switch with the amps and
both amps always on instead of adding it to the pedal board and switching back and forth between the heads.
Too much to do singing and playing at the same time to be tap dancing. The blank spot on the board is usually where I put my left foot when I'm playing and singing so I'd like to leave that space open. I have stuff spread out so I can hit what I need to hit without having to look down while I'm singing and playing. The pog and eq are always on and I use the loop switch to engage them, the others I use the wah pedal as a guide rail to know which pedals I'm hitting without having to look.
Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

Here's mine: After much jigging about, i've finally settled (at least for the moment) on the following chain:
Orange channel switch for Thunderverb Monkey FX ABY ---> One Channel --> EHX Little Big Muff ---> Matamp GT1 \---> Other channel ---> Digitech Harmony Man ---> Line 6 DL-4 ---> Boss DD6 Delay ---> Orange Thunderverb Powered by a Voodoo Labs pedal power 2
Would like to add a second looper and possibly a sexy reverb pedal in somewhere if i can find the room. If anyone has any suggestions for either then let me know - I'm thinking Boss looper and Holy/Holier/Holiest Grail. Any thoughts? |

Here is my pedal-board :
But I can't use the half of it due to the Matamp's FX-Loop problems ! I had to put delay, reverb and EQ before input instead of the FX Loop... And I finally don't use it anymore. Hayden is working for a solution, I wait till 9 month ! Anyway, I try to solve this FX-Loop problem myself with an MXR CAE MC-401 Boost Line Driver Pedal in order to boost the FX-Loop signal but it didn't work the way I intended. But I tried it just before amp's input as a clean-boost and it did some miraculous job !! I now use it 90% of time in overdrive. It adds some harmonics and lot of definition. There is a little more bass who are tighter and bigger. It add a lot of punch to my overdrive sound without adding some compression. I don't loose dynamics but the overall sound is bigger. (I have a King Street Major) |
