New (and very happy) Matamp owner checking in. Just got a Minimat 2 and 1x12 cab. Looks and sounds fantastic - the photos don't do the cab justice, the brown shimmon cloth is really neat. My '62 Strat is a little thin sounding when plugged straight in, but my new SG gives me the exact sound I'm looking for and through my Big Muff it sounds totally awesome. I'm now looking forward to letting rip without the attenuator

looking good!!
loving the Strat, i have a '62 Jap reissue that looks similar. What speaker did you go for in the cab?. I found my Minimat1 a little thin with a strat, i changed the factory 'Edicron 6V6' to a Brimar 6V6 from Watford Valves and that improved it greatly. The JJ preamp valves are fine in it, anything else thinned it out |

No, I'm a long way from Meltham, sadly. I plan to make a trip to the factory in a few months though - I thought it best to take a punt in the meantime,
live with it for a while and then I have something to compare other speakers to. The world of boutique amps, valves and choosing your own speakers is all new
to me but I'm loving the steep learning curve.

Reason i ask about the speakers is that i love V30's for gigging, they cut through a mix with ease, but they need a long break in time. Mine took about 20
gigs or so running my 50w King Street Major flat out. Before they break in they have a real harsh mid spike and not much low end, all that changes after break
in, the low end (although not massive) is fuller and the mid hump is tamed, but still present. A lot of people here like the Hot100 for home use, it's a
very neutral speaker. I use a G12H with my First Lady and Minimat, sometimes a 1x10 cab with the Mini that has a G10 Vintage

That's all very useful info, thanks. Must admit, I don't really like the idea of a "neutral" speaker - I'd much rather something with a
bit of character.
I'm in Leigh-on-sea, Essex.
