Recently traded two Orange heads (90's OR80 and AD30HTC) that I wasn't happy with for a GT1, which I love so far.
The Orange amps were both ebay purchases, so i bought them without really hearing them first. I just kind of "went for it" based on internet research i had done. What i found was that they both seemed to have a strange, bright treble timber that would not go away no matter how you dialed them in. My friend even ran his Hammond B3 through the OR80 and it sounded all weird and crappy, instead of really good like i hoped/ though it would.
But the Matamp is a different animal. Thick and meaty tone, nice lush mids, and when i turn down the treble, the tone fogs up nicely. I love Page, Iommi, Peter Green, young Clapton, J McLaughlin, Hendrix, etc, etc, etc...
Running a '79 Les Paul STD and a Firebird through the GT1 into an Avatar 4x12 w/ celestions (120w). i have a zillion pedals but w/ the band i keep it simple: EH Tube Zipper and Boss RE-20 Space Echo (the new digital one).
