hi, im a huge fan of creamy overdrive tones. i know the guitar and the pickups are important,

but im experimenting with the best settings on my GT1. i simply want a smooth overdrive for enough headroom!

im a fan of this fat qotsa distorted sound, with not too much gain. so im open for changing the pre amp valves, but JJ and TungSol are the best till
now.

so it might be the best to turn the amp up half and set the gain lower? maybe i should buy a good clean boost too,

like MXR and stuff....

QOTSA.. hmm.. I'd try some radical settings, like zero Bass, max Mid, zero Treble and Presence. Non-master mode, Vol around 10-12 o'clock depending on
pickups and Voice full left. If humbuckers, try both for top end clarity and bite as well as messy bottom.

Like Pete24v says, pushing the volume up causes the power amp to distort. If you run your pre-amp gain relatively low, and push the master up between 3/4's
& full, you'll be able to control the overall tone with your guitar's volume control. Compression can be your friend at high volumes.

At those kinds of volumes, it is well worth experimenting with the overall sounds. Set your amp volume at full, & wind down the gain to about 1, then blend
in to taste. Make...

lower the preamp gain then run the master higher. If you run the amp into power amp distortion it will compress and you'll run out of headroom. Although i
wouldn't worry about that on a GT1, they are 80-120watts... so plenty of headroom.

Personally i'd set the maser so it's just starting to clip, then knock it back a notch, add preamp gain and a Tubescreamer in front to add anymore
gain/volume boost for solos and to tighten up the low end
